UPDATED 11/8/2023: On Microsoft Edge, you can remove the Copilot button (and the entire sidebar) through the settings page, and in this guide, I’ll outline the steps for this configuration. Similar to the experience on Windows 11, Copilot for Edge is an integration of the Bing Chat technology directly into the browser that allows Microsoft to also bring the chatbot AI to other platforms, such as macOS and Linux.

The Copilot button appears in the top-right corner of Microsoft Edge, which opens a flyout you can use to interact with the chatbot without switching to a different tab. The integration includes three tabs, “Chat,” “Compose,” and “Insights.” The “Chat” tab is the same experience you will get when using the chatbot on Bing.com. The “Compose” tab allows you to use the new Copilot to help you create different types of content formats. In the “Write about” box, you can specify the requirements for the message. The “Insights” tab is a content-aware feature that understands the context of the web page you are viewing and surface related information. This feature seems more like suggestions from Bing than AI-generated information.

Although this is a convenient way for Microsoft Edge users to access the chatbot capabilities without leaving the current page, it’s not a feature that everyone wants. As a result, the company has added an option to disable the experience.

In this guide, I will teach you how to disable or enable the chatbot AI experience on Microsoft Edge.
