On Windows 11 build 25992, Microsoft is experimenting with positioning the Copilot button in the Taskbar’s System Tray instead of next to the Start button.
At the time of writing, this is a hidden feature, and you can enable it using the “ViveTool” tool (via @PhantomOfEarth) available through GitHub. Once the feature is enabled, you will notice that the icon will appear as the first item on the right side, next to the Notification icon.
However, the feature won’t enable an additional option in the Settings app or anywhere to change the position, suggesting that Microsoft is considering permanently relocating Copilot to the System Tray. If this is the case, it could also be possible that the company may be planning to change the button style to fit in the notification area.
In this guide, I will teach you how to add the Copilot button to the System Tray on Windows 11.
Relocate Copilot button to Taskbar System Tray
To move the Copilot button to the System Tray on Windows 11, use these steps:
-
-
Download the ViveTool-vx.x.x.zip file to move Copilot to the System Tray.
-
Double-click the zip folder to open it with File Explorer.
-
Click the Extract all button.
-
Click the Extract button.
-
Copy the path to the folder.
-
Open Start.
-
Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
-
Type the following command to navigate to the ViveTool folder and press Enter:
cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x
In the command, remember to change the path to the folder with your path.
-
Type the following command to move the Copilot button to the System Tray and press Enter:
vivetool /enable /id:46874360
-
Restart the computer.
Once you complete the steps, you will notice the same Copilot button on the right side of the Taskbar, where the Notifications icon appears.
If you change your mind, you can revert the changes with the same instructions, but on step 10, make sure to use the vivetool /disable /id:46874360
command and then restart the computer.
