Although you can use the web version of Android Messages to send texts from your PC, the Your Phone app for Windows 10 now supports the same functionality.

The Your Phone app has been designed to further integrate your phone with your computer giving you quick access to your photos, notifications, and text messages.

Initially, the app only included access to your recent photos, but now, it’s been updated to access and send text messages without having to reach for your phone. In the future it’s expected to work with iOS devices, but currently, you can only send text messages on Android phones.

In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to send SMS text messages from your PC on Windows 10.

Once you’ve completed the steps, you can send and receive texts from your Windows 10 PC without having to unlock your phone.

Technically, Windows 10 isn’t sending the messages, the Your Phone app packages the text you type, sends it to your mobile device, and then it sends it from phone.

Using the app, you can no only use the keyboard to type your messages, but on touch-enabled devices, you can also use your digital pen to use natural handwriting to compose and send SMS text messages. (As you type the message, the ink will convert from handwriting to actual text.)

In addition, you can also use your voice to compose the message. Just select the text box, use the Windows key + H keyboard shortcut, and start dictating the message. (This feature works only in English (US) at the time of this writing.)

If you can’t find this app, it’s likely because you’re not running the version of Windows 10 that includes the experience. The Your Phone is available starting with the October 2018 Update (version 1809).

If you want to try the Your Phone app right now, you need to join the Windows Insider Program, and install the latest preview of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
