Although Microsoft has already made available updates for Windows 10 to mitigate the Spectre and Meltdown security vulnerabilities on Intel processors, additional updates are required to further mitigate these issues.
This time around, Microsoft is making available (via Neowin) a new set of Intel microcode updates for almost every supported version of Windows 10 to mitigate several variants of the Spectre security flaw.
These are standalone updates that you need to download from the Microsoft Update Catalog website and install manually. Here are the download links (via ghacks):
- KB4346084 for Windows 10 version 1803.
- KB4346085 for Windows 10 version 1709.
- KB4346086 for Windows 10 version 1703.
- KB4346087 for Windows 10 version 1607.
- KB4346088 for Windows 10 version 1507.
Along with the previous mitigations, these updates also contain protections against the Spectre variant 3a and 4.
While anyone can download and install any of these updates, it’s recommended to check this Microsoft support website to make sure it applies to your machine.
