The Windows Calculator app that you use on Windows 10 is now an open-source project on GitHub. Microsoft has been contributing to the open-source community for a long time, but in the recent years, we’re seeing the company allowing the community to contribute to even more products, including File Manager, PowerShell, MS-DOS, .NET Core, and many others, and the company has even open 60,000 patents to shield the Linux community from lawsuits.
Open-sourcing the Calculator means that anyone in the community will be able to access and modify the source code to improve the user experience of the app.
The code is now available in GitHub, and it includes, the source code, build system, unit tests, and Microsoft is even sharing the product roadmap, which developers can use to improve the app or integrate the Calculator logic and interface elements into their own apps.
However, once changes are made to the app, Microsoft won’t just push them directly to users. The company will continue its usual testing, compliance, security, and quality processes before changes make it to the final product.
