How to record Skype calls on Windows 10, Android, iOS

You can now record Skype calls to capture those special moments, and here's how to use the feature.

Skype is adding the ability to record calls on computer and phones. According to Microsoft, call recording is a cloud-based feature, and it’s available now after updating to the latest version of Skype. Currently, it’s available for Android and iOS, but the feature will be coming to Windows 10 in a few weeks.

The feature is straightforward, you can record any call, as soon as you start the recording, everyone in the call will get a notification, and then you have 30 days to share and save the recording locally.

In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to record Skype calls on your computer as well as on your phone. In addition, we’ll go through the steps to save the recording locally and share it with other contacts.

How to record Skype calls

To record a Skype call on your computer or phone, use these steps:

  1. Open Skype.

  2. Select a contact.

  3. Start a conversation.

  4. Click the + button in the bottom-right corner.

  5. Select the Start recording option.

Once you’ve completed the steps, on both desktop and mobile, a banner will appear letting everyone know that the call is being recorded.

How to save Skype call recordings

Skype call recordings are posted on your chat, and they’ll be available for a total of 30 days. If you want to keep the recording, you must save it locally on your device. Here’s how on your PC.

  1. Open Skype.

  2. Go to your chat.

  3. Click the More options (three-dotted) button in the Skype recording.

  4. Select the Save to Downloads option.

After completing the steps, the Skype call recording will save on your computer using an mp4 file format.

On your phone, simply tap and hold the recorded call in the chat, and then tap the Save option. The Skype call will download and save automatically on your device.

How to share Skype call recordings

If you want to share the call with other people that didn’t participate in recording, use these steps:

  1. Open Skype.

  2. Go to your chat.

  3. Click the More options (three-dotted) button in the Skype recording.

  4. Select the Forward option.

  5. In the “Forward Message” box, select the contacts you want to share the recorded call.

  6. Click the Send button.

Once you’ve completed the steps, the Skype call recording will be sent to the contacts you selected.

On your phone, simply tap and hold the recorded call in the chat, and then tap the Forward option. Then select the contacts, and tap the Send button.
