How to disable File Explorer notifications on Windows 10

File Explorer on Windows 10 now features notifications, but you can easily disable them using these easy steps.

On Windows 10, Microsoft has introduced a new form of notifications within File Explorer, which helps users discover the new features in Windows 10.

These new notifications are designed not to be obstructive and provide quick information about things you can do or new features that you can try in new versions of Windows 10.

While these new kind of notifications are meant for all users, you probably already know the new features or things you can do within a new version of Windows 10, as such Microsoft also provides a way to disable the feature.

In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to disable File Explorer notifications on Windows 10 (Creators Update).

How to disable notifications in File Explorer

  1. Open File Explorer.

  2. Click the View tab.

  3. Click the Options button.

  4. In Folder Options, click the View tab.

  5. Scroll and make sure to uncheck “Show sync provider notifications”.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Click OK to complete the task.

Once you completed task, you’ll no longer see these notifications on File Explorer.

How to disable notifications in File Explorer using Registry

Alternatively, you can also disable Show sync provider notifications in File Explorer on Windows 10 Creators Update by modifying the registry.

Important: It’s recommended you do a full backup of your computer before proceeding, as modifying the registry incorrectly can cause irreversible damage to your system.

  1. Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run the command.

  2. Type regedit and click OK.

  3. Navigate the following path:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

  4. If you don’t see the ShowSyncProviderNotifications key, you’ll have to create it.

    1. Right-click on the right side, and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    2. Name the key ShowSyncProviderNotifications.

    3. Click OK.

  5. Double-click the ShowSyncProviderNotifications key and set its value from 0 to 1.

  6. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

Keep in mind that this feature is part of the Windows 10 Creators Upate development, as such if you don’t see the option available, you’re probably not running the new version releases in early spring 2017.
