Skype version 5.8 for Windows has been released and it brings some interesting features, such as full HD video calls, group screen sharing and Facebook integration.
Now users with HD webcam, like the Microsoft LifeCam Studio 1080p HD Webcam (order from Amazon.com) or the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 (order from Amazon.com) that encodes the video right into the device thus providing an improve quality on HD video, are going to really take advantage of the full capability of the device.
Facebook integration for video calling works even if your friends do not use Skype. Just select a friend in your list and click video call.
And the last new feature is group screen sharing (available with Skype Premium), which basically allows you to share your computer screen or running application with other people in the conference call. To use this feature, choose the + menu when you are in the call and simply click share my screen.
Among other features, Skype 5.8 includes a push to talk keyboard shortcut, Bing Toolbar integration — this shouldn’t be a surprise knowing that Microsoft now owns the VoIP service –, and you can now hide offline Facebook friends. Also the latest release comes with various bug fixes as well.
