Microsoft makes the Windows 11 Moment 3 update an optional install for everyone in the Stable Channel starting June 27, 2023. Although the company initially released the update in May, it was only available as a preview for devices with the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option enabled in the Windows Update settings, but now, the feature drop is available for anyone as an optional install.
The rollout technically started on May 11, when the company made available a preview of the Moment 3 update in the Release Preview Channel as build 22621.1776. On May 24, the update was released as build 22621.1778 in the Stable Channel, but it was only available as a preview for devices with the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option enabled in the Windows Update settings.
On June 13, the rollout continued during the Patch Tuesday update with the release of build 22621.1848. On June 20, build 22621.1926 appeared in the Release Preview Channel as a preview enablement package that continued to enable new features and changes. On June 27, build 22621.1928 became available for everyone as the final release of the Windows 11 Moment 3 update in the Stable Channel, but as an optional install. However, Microsoft plans to make the update fully available as an automatic install with the Patch Tuesday update coming in July 2023.
Although the update is referred to as “Moment 3,” it doesn’t have an official name since it’s not a feature update and doesn’t require reinstallation. However, it will increase the version number to build 22621.1928 if the update doesn’t increase further on July 11, during the Patch Tuesday rollout.
As part of the update, you will find new privacy settings to control devices that can detect your nearby presence. The network icon in the System Tray introduces a new badge icon when connected to a VPN. The Start menu will now show badge notifications for account-related details. And the Live Captions feature expands to more regions.
The Moment 3 update introduces Bluetooth Low Energy Audio support for high-quality audio at low power, delivering better experiences for your calls, videos, and music on compatible devices.
Also, as part of the business improvements, the feature drop introduces features like Sign-In Session Token Protection Policy, Windows Autopatch, Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS), Microsoft Intune Suite Endpoint Privilege Management, Microsoft Edge Workspaces, and Windows 365 Boot.
Furthermore, Windows 11 will now also include isolation capabilities for legacy Win32 apps, better security for printing information with a barcode, and the ability for administrators to push desktop messages to users. You can learn more details about the Windows 11 Moment 3 update in this guide.
