  • Microsoft fixes gaming performance issues on Windows 11 22H2.
  • The update is now available as a preview through Windows Update.
  • The update also introduces other unrelated improvements and fixes.

Microsoft is now making available a preview of the next cumulative update of Windows 11 that contains fixes for some gaming performance issues. The company previously revealed lower performance or stuttering in some games and apps after upgrading to Windows 11 22H2.

Also, according to the official health dashboard website, the problem was caused by games and apps “inadvertently enabling GPU performance debugging features not meant to be used by consumers.”

As a result of these problems, the new version of the operating system was temporarily unavailable for affected devices. However, the company has addressed these issues with the update KB5020044, which any computer running version 22H2 can download and install from the Windows Update settings.

Although, for the most part, the rollout of the new version of the operating system has been smooth, these were not the only headaches for gamers. Recently, the company also acknowledged that some virtualization features could impact gaming performance and recommended users disable those features temporarily to improve the gaming experience.

Furthermore, computers featuring Nvidia graphics also encountered low frame rates, stuttering, and low processor usage after upgrading to Windows 11 22H2. However, Nvidia quickly updated its graphics driver to resolve these issues.

In addition to gaming performance fixes, the cumulative update includes various other fixes, including storage usage from OneDrive in the Settings app, the ability to enable the Window Spotlight feature from the Themes settings, and more.
