Microsoft is rolling out the October 2023 updates of its Xbox consoles, including the Series X, S, and One, with new features and enhancements.
According to the official announcements, the Xbox October 2023 update brings keyboard mapping support for the Xbox controllers. You can now import game captures from the console to Clipchamp. It’s now possible to set your preferences for optional diagnostic data, and this update makes it easier to join a multiplayer game from your profile.

These are the new features and changes rolling out with the October 2023 update for Xbox consoles.
Keyboard mapping
Starting with the October release, it’s now possible to map the controller buttons for your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and the Adaptive Controller to the keyboard, making the console more accessible to players with disabilities and players who want to customize their controls for specific games.
Microsoft also points out that an update for the Xbox Accessories app will soon roll out with support for controller-to-keyboard input mapping on both computer and console.
Import game captures
This update also brings the ability to import your game captures from Xbox to Clipchamp to edit from your Windows 11 or 10 computer or browser and share with anyone.
If you want to get started, in the Clipchamp interface, you will have to choose the new “Xbox” option from the import menu. After you sign in to the Xbox network, you will be able to choose and import captures into the app for editing and sharing.
Choose diagnostic data settings
The October update now allows you to set your preferences for optional diagnostic data across your Xbox devices. This gives you more control over the data that the company collects about your gaming habits, including app and feature use, enhanced error reporting to help provide console performance, troubleshooting, and more.
If you want to change the diagnostic data settings, open Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Data collection, and select the level of data to share with Microsoft.
Profile menu quick access to game
A subset of users will get access to an experiment in which Microsoft is making it easier to jump into a game from your profile. According to the company, this new feature will make it easier to find and join your friends’ games without having to send invites back and forth.
In addition to these new features, recent changes to the gaming platform now prevent “unauthorized” controllers and other accessories from being used on Xbox Series X, S, and One.
The Xbox October 2023 update is rolling out now to every console worldwide. However, if you can’t wait until it’s available to you automatically, you can force the update on Settings > System > Updates > Update console and tap the “Start update” button.
