Microsoft is expected to release at least two models of the next generation of Xbox consoles during the 2020 holiday season. According to a recent report from The Verge, in addition to the more powerful Xbox Project Scarlett console (known as “Anaconda”), the company will be launching a second less powerful model of the console (known as “Lockhart”).
These two consoles will technically replace the Xbox One X and Xbox One S consoles, which will continue to be available. However, the Lockhart model is said to have similar hardware as Project Scarlett, but it’ll be tweaked to be less powerful, and it’ll not include a disc drive, similar to the current Xbox One All-Digital Edition.
Although the technical specifications are still unknown for both consoles, the company wants to hit the 10 teraflops of graphical power on Anaconda, while Lockhart is expected to hit the 4 teraflops.
Both consoles will include a solid-state drive (SSD), but the Lockhart variant will be targeted to 1440p gaming, while Anaconda will be a 4K gaming console.
It’s not clear how the company will be pricing the next generation of Xbox consoles, but it’s likely that pricing will be inline with the power that console has to offer.
