Surface devices get May 2019 firmware update

Microsoft pushes a slew of improvements for its Surface devices already running the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, and here's all you need to know.

Microsoft is now releasing firmware updates for its Surface devices already running the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, version 1903.

In this wave, most Surface devices, including the Surface Studio 2, Surface Pro 6, and Surface Laptop 2 are getting updates except the Surface Go.

The May 2019 firmware update is been out for a few days, and according to the company support page, they deliver a ton of improvements for Windows 10 version 1903.

Surface Studio 2

Here are all the new fixes and improvements in this new Surface Studio 2 update:

  • Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter – Bluetooth: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.
  • Intel Ethernet connection – Network adapters: 12.17.10.7 improves system stability and performance.
  • Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller – Network adapters: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.

In addition, Microsoft is also releasing a firmware update for its first generation of Surface Studio with similar changes.

Surface Pro 6

Here are all changes for the Surface Pro 6:

  • Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter – Bluetooth: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.
  • Intel AVStream Camera 2500 – Camera: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Intel UHD Graphics 620 – Display adapter: 25.20.100.6471 improves system stability and performance, when resuming from sleep.
  • Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller – Network adapters: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.
  • Intel Control Logic – System devices: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Microsoft Camera Front– System devices: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Microsoft IR Camera Front– System devices: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Microsoft Camera Rear– System devices: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Intel CIO2 Host Controller – System devices: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Intel Imaging Signal Processor 2500 – System devices: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.
  • Surface System Telemetry – System: 4.0.0.0 resolves an error code in Device Manager under Surface System Telemetry.
  • Realtek USB 3.0 Card Reader – Universal Serial Bus controllers: 10.0.17763.31246 improves battery life while using SD card during Connected Standby.

The software giant is also releasing similar firmware updates for older versions of the device, including for the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 4.

Surface Pro 3

This time around even the Surface Pro 3 receives a minor update, and these are the changes:

  • Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter – Bluetooth: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.
  • Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller – Network adapters: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.

Alongside the Surface Pro 3 update, the Surface 3 tablet also received an update with similar changes.

Surface Laptop 2

Here are all changes for the Surface Laptop 2:

  • Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter – Bluetooth: 15.68.9127.58 improves system security.
  • Intel AVStream Camera 2500 – Camera: 30.15063.6.8611 improves camera performance.

The first generation of Surface Book also receives a similar update, according to the Microsoft support website.

The update should download and install automatically, but if you have not received it on your Surface, then you can go to Settings Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.
