Microsoft starts testing a new option called “Download and install now” option to give users the control on when to get Windows 10 version 1903, May 2019 Update, and future versions of the operating system.
In April, the software giant announced that Windows 10 will no longer force feature updates on device through Windows Update automatically or when clicking the Check for updates button. Instead, users will receive a notification when the update is ready, and then users will see the choice to initiate the upgrade manually or ignore it without missing monthly quality updates.
Now, the new option is already appearing on preview builds of the Windows 10 May 2019 Update.
A screenshot shared by a user at Reddit shows the “Download and install” option below the Check for updates button in the Windows Update settings page. The option is clearly a test, and it’s available to download the latest quality update. However, soon the new feature should start appearing automatically on version 1809 and older versions to install or skip Windows 10 version 1903.
Although Microsoft is changing the way devices upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10, computers running a version nearing to the end of service will continue to receive upgrades automatically to keep the device supported.
The new control also means that clicking the Check for updates button will only download and install monthly quality updates, and the Download and install option will give users the control on when to upgrade.
