As we’re quickly getting close to the release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809), it’s now a good time to download the ISO file for Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) while it’s still available.

Usually, when a new version of Windows 10 launches, Microsoft also updates its Media Creation Tool and Update Assistant to upgrade devices to the latest release. This means that if you install the October 2018 Update, you won’t be able to use these tools to downgrade if you’re having issues or you just don’t like the update.

Of course, Windows 10 includes a recovery feature to go back to the previous version, but it’s only available for ten days since the day the new version was installed, and even so, many times it doesn’t work.

If you download the ISO file for the April 2018 Update before version 1809 releases in October, you’ll have a way to go back to the previous version at anytime doing a clean installation of the operating system.

Using the Microsoft download website, you can get the ISO file for version 1803 in at least two different ways.

You can use the Media Creation Tool to create an ISO file that you can use in the future to reinstall Windows 10 with the older version. Or you can use this workaround to download the Windows 10 ISO file without the need of using the Media Creation Tool.
