Windows 10 version 2004, May 2020 Update, is the first semi-annual feature update rolling out starting on May 27, 2020, but because these upgrades are incremental, and also because they’re simply known as “Windows 10,” it’s confusing to know which version your computer is running.
Although you won’t find the official name anywhere, each release of Windows 10 receives a specific version number. In this case, the first major refresh for 2020 is known as “version 2004.” As an example, the Windows 10 November 2019 Update is “version 1909,” and the May 2019 Update is “version 1903.”
If you’re not sure which version of Windows 10 is running on your computer, you can check using the “winver” command and “About” settings page.
In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to determine if the Windows 10 May 2020 Update is already installed on your computer.
How to check Windows 10 version 2004 installed on PC
On Windows 10, there are a number of ways to check the Windows 10 version that your device is running, but here are two of the quickest ways to see if the version 2004 is installed on your device.
Checking version 2004 using winver command
Check if you have Windows 10 version 2004 is installed on your device:
-
Open Start.
-
Search for
winver
and press Enter.
If the “About Windows” dialog shows “Version 2004” along with “OS Build 19041.xxx” (or a later build number), then the Windows 10 May 2020 Update is installed on your desktop, laptop, or tablet.
Checking version 2004 using Settings
Confirm if your device is running Windows 10 version 2004 with these steps:
-
Open Settings.
-
Click on System.
-
Click on About.
In the “About” page, under “Version”, you should see the 2004 number, and under “OS Build”, the number should be 19041.xxx or later.
Typically, Windows 10 will never install a new version without notifying you, and after an upgrade, during the first loggin, Microsoft Edge usually opens displaying a welcome message of the new version.
