Surface Pro X, Laptop 5, Pro 7 pick up September 2023 update

Microsoft updates some of its Surface devices, and here's what you need to know.

In September 2023, some Surface devices are getting updates to address vulnerabilities and improve system stability, including the Surface Pro X, Surface Laptop 5, and Surface Pro 7.

The update should download and install automatically, but if you have not received it, you get it from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually. You can use these instructions to learn different ways you want to update your Windows 11 computer.

These are the improvements, fixes, and new features available for Surface devices.

Surface Pro X

The update for Surface X was originally released on September 14 and brings these improvements and fixes:

  • Improves Wireless stability and addresses security vulnerability.
  • Improves device audio stability and performance.
  • Addresses 3rd party application performance.
  • Improves Fingerprint reader reliability.

The update for Surface Laptop 5 was originally released on September 14 with these fixes, changes, and driver updates:

  • Improves device stability, resolving system crash issues.
  • Resolves external display connection issue.

Surface Pro 7

The update for Surface Pro 7 was originally released on September 14 with these fixes, changes, and driver updates:

  • Addresses security vulnerabilities and improves system stability and performance.
  • Improves device charging performance and stability. 
  • Resolves a device booting to the Surface logo issue. 

These are the driver updates for the Pro 7:

  • Surface – Firmware – 14.701.139.0 Surface System Aggregator – Firmware.
