Windows 10 update KB4517389 (build 18362.418) for version 1903

As part of October 2019 Patch Tuesday, Microsoft is now rolling out update KB4517389 for devices running Windows 10 version 1903, May 2019 Update, to address several issues.

KB4517389 bumps the version number to build 18362.418, and according to the company, fixes a latency connection problems with the processor. In addition, this quality update addresses a print issue that caused print jobs to fail, and it patch some security vulnerabilities.

Alongside the update for version 1903, Microsoft is also making available similar fixes for version 1809, 1803, 1709, 1607, and the initial release of Windows 10.

Update KB4517389 for Windows 10 version 1903

Microsoft has announced KB4517389 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “October 8, 2019—KB4517389 (OS Build 18362.418)” If you’re already running the Windows 10 May 2019 Update on your device, this update will address these problems:

• Addresses an issue with applications and printer drivers that utilize the Windows JavaScript engine (jscript.dll) for processing print jobs.
• Addresses an issue in security bulletin CVE-2019-1318 that may cause client or server computers that don’t support Extended Master Secret (EMS) RFC 7627 to have increased connection latency and CPU utilization.
• Security updates to Windows Shell, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Cryptography, Windows Authentication, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Scripting Engine, and Windows Server.

Update KB4519338 for Windows 10 version 1809

Microsoft has also announced KB4519338 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “October 8, 2019—KB4519338 (OS Build 17763.806)” If you’re already running the Windows 10 October 2019 Update on your device, this update will address these problems:

• Addresses an issue in the Keyboard Lockdown Subsystem that may not filter key input correctly.
• Addresses an issue in security bulletin CVE-2019-1318 that may cause client or server computers that don’t support Extended Master Secret (EMS) RFC 7627 to have increased connection latency and CPU utilization.
• Addresses an issue with applications and printer drivers that utilize the Windows JavaScript engine (jscript.dll) for processing print jobs.
• Security updates to Windows Shell, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Edge, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Cryptography, Windows Authentication, Windows Kernel, and Windows Server.

Update KB4524149 for Windows 10 version 1803

The April 2018 Update (version 1803) is getting update KB4524149, and the Windows support site referred  as “October 8, 2019—KB4520008 (OS Build 17134.1069)”. If you’re already running version 1803 on your PC, this update will address these issues:

• Addresses an issue in the Keyboard Lockdown Subsystem that may not filter key input correctly.
• Addresses an issue with the Bluetooth hardening updates, released August 13, 2019, that may cause a “0x133 DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION” error.
• Addresses an issue in security bulletin CVE-2019-1318 that may cause client or server computers that don’t support Extended Master Secret (EMS) RFC 7627 to have increased connection latency and CPU utilization. 
• Addresses an issue with applications and printer drivers that utilize the Windows JavaScript engine (jscript.dll) for processing print jobs.
• Security updates to Windows Shell, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Cryptography, Windows Authentication, Windows Datacenter Networking , Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Scripting Engine, and Windows Server.

Update for older versions of Windows 10

While version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) is no longer supported, organizations running the Enterprise or Education edition of Windows 10 are getting update KB4520004 to fix several issues and bumps the version number to 16299.1451.

Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) is also no longer supported, but organizations with devices still running this release can now download KB4520010, which fixes a few problems and ramps the version number to build 15063.2108.

Also, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1697, is getting update KB4519998 to address some issues with the no longer supported operating system bumping the version number to build 14393.3274.

Finally, the original release of Windows 10 is getting update KB4520011 bumping the version number to 10240.18368 to address a several problems.

Uninstall October 2019 quality update from Windows 10

If the October 2019 Patch Tuesday update is causing issues on your device, you can always uninstall it to revert the changes.

Use these steps to uninstall any quality update (KB4517389, KB4519338, KB4524149, KB4520004, KB4520010, KB4519998, KB4520011) on Windows 10:

1. Open Start.

2. Search for Command Prompt and click the top result to open the app.

3. Type the following command to view the update history and press Enter:

   wmic qfe list brief /format:table

   

4. Check the Windows Update history of your device, and identify the update by its HotFixID and InstalledOn information.

5. Type the following command to uninstall the update from your computer and press Enter:

   wusa /uninstall /kb:4517389

   In the command, replace “4517389” for KB number that correspond to the update that you’re trying to remove. For instance, if you’re trying to uninstall update KB4517389, then number that you can have to use in the command is “4517389.”

   

6. Click the Yes button.

7. Continue with the on-screen directions (if applicable).

Once you complete the steps, the recently installed update will be remove from your computer fixing any issues as a result of the release.
