The issue is that the signal includes your computer’s unique Media Access Control (MAC) address, and sending out the hardware address can allow others to track your location in a specific area, such as at stores, airports, malls, public areas, etc.
If you want to make it more difficult for people to track your movements as the device scans and connects to a Wi-Fi network, Windows 10 includes an option to generate random hardware addresses that keep changing to make your location more private. However, the feature is only available on specific hardware. If the network adapter doesn’t support the randomize feature, you won’t see the option in the Settings app.
