Windows 11 will include a new Snipping Tool to take screenshots. Microsoft’s head of Windows and Devices, Panos Panay, teased the app, and it’s a modern take of the legacy Snipping Tool already available on Windows 10. Instead of removing the legacy application, the company is combining the modern Snip & Sketch app with the legacy Snipping Tool to create a new single application to take screenshots on Windows 11.
The new app retains the same familiar look as the legacy version, but the interface has been modernized to follow the same visual design language available on Windows 11. Also, Microsoft is working to bring the best features available in the Snip & Sketch app to the new Snipping Tool.
For example, as the video teaser shows, when you open the new Snipping Tool, you will get the same familiar design but with Windows 11 visual elements, and when taking a screenshot, you will get the Snip & Sketch tools to edit and annotate the screenshot.
Although the app is not yet available, Microsoft is expected to ship the first preview version of the Snipping Tool in upcoming builds of Windows 11.
This is not the only app that the company is updating. As part of the Windows 11 development, Microsoft is creating new versions for many of its products, including a new Microsoft Paint and Clock & Alarm apps, and many others.
