Starting April 2, 2019, Microsoft is ending the sell of books from the Store app for Windows 10. This means that customers will no longer be able to buy, rent, or preorder ebooks using the app.
Furthermore, purchases (free or paid) that you may have had in the past will be removed from your computer in July 2019. However, the software giant will provide refunds for books that you have purchased or preorder.
According to a report from ZDNet, Microsoft has decided to discontinue the Books section in a new strategy to streamline the focus of the Store. However, there could other reasons, such as the company no longer wanting to compete with Google and Amazon. Or it could have something to do that the Windows 10 is soon to get a new version of Microsoft Edge based on Chromium that offers a better experience for consuming content.
Microsoft also published a support article detailing that refunds will start rolling out automatically in July 2019 to the original payment method used to make the purchase. If you used a gift card or the payment method is no longer available, you’ll get a credit in your Microsoft account.
In addition, if you added notes to your books, the company will even give you a $25 credit for losing those notes.
