As a result of the recently disclosed security vulnerabilities found on pretty much every modern microprocessor, including those from Intel, AMD, and ARM, Microsoft is issuing a new UEFI update to protect Surface devices from the Meltdown and Spectre processor bugs.
Installing the latest patch is just part of the equation, the software giant has also recently published an emergency update to protect Windows 10 against these vulnerabilities (which you should be installing as well).
The following Surface device running Windows 10 will be receiving the new update:
- Surface Pro 3
- Surface Pro 4
- Surface Book
- Surface Studio
- Surface Pro Model 1796
- Surface Laptop
- Surface Pro with LTE Advanced
- Surface Book 2
However, the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 running Intel processors and Surface 3 running on ARM seem not to be getting the update.

The new firmware update is rolling out on stages now for devices running Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) and version 1709 (Fall Creators Update). The update will install automatically through Windows Update, or you can download and install it manually from the Microsoft Download Center.
