Microsoft is working to integrate its recently announced Microsoft 365 Copilot AI chatbot into OneNote. In addition to bringing Copilot to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the company is also planning to bring the AI experience to the notetaking app, OneNote.
According to the announcement, the Copilot combines the Large Language Model (LLM) from ChatGPT with the data from the Microsoft Graphs (notes, calendars, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and more) and the tools from the OneNote app to improve your productivity.
Similar to how it will work on other apps, the Copilot interface will appear on the right side of the app using a chat interface that you can use to ask questions using natural language, as you see on Bing. The AI can also show as a contextual prompt overlaying the app’s canvas.
Whenever you need assistance, the OneNote Copilot can help you create, capture, organize, and recall information. Copilot can draft plans, generate ideas, create lists, organize information, and more using a few prompts with natural language as if you were asking another person.
Furthermore, the chatbot can summarize, rewrite, format, and add visual context to existing text.
While Microsoft is announcing the Copilot for OneNote now, the company briefly demoed the feature during “The Future of Work With AI” event in March. However, the company didn’t share additional information in the official announcement.
Microsoft is currently testing Copilot only with a few Microsoft 365 customers, and it hasn’t been announced when the AI chatbot will roll out to OneNote or the other apps. However, it’s possible to enable the feature on the latest preview of the Office apps, such as Excel, Word, and OneNote, with a simple Registry modification on Windows 11.
