  • Microsoft Bing with ChatGPT suddenly appears to some users briefly.
  • The new version of Bing offers answers in natural language.
  • The feature seems like it’ll be available alongside traditional search.

Some users have spotted an early preview of the Bing search engine with ChatGPT integration. Microsoft is expected to announce a new version of its search engine that will include the popular chatbot from OpenAI, and some users are claiming that the new feature suddenly became available to them.

According to a report from The Verge, Twitter user Owen Yin (who uses Bing as his default homepage) suddenly got access to the new version of the search engine with ChatGPT. The feature disappeared shortly after, but not before he was able to try it and take some screenshots.

Yin claims that Bing was able to answer questions in a conversational manner. Furthermore, the search engine was also able to provide the sources for the information presented as the answer.

In the screenshots, the Bing page offers a “Chat” option next to “Search.” When you click the option, you will be directed to another page that reads, “Welcome to the new Bing: Your AI-powered answer engine,” and offers multiple options, including “Ask complex questions,” “Get better answers,” and “Get creative inspiration,” which you can choose to chat with Bing.

The page warns users that “surprises and mistakes are possible” using this feature and recommends checking the facts before relying on the answer. You will also find a link to share feedback to help improve the service.

Overall, the new Bing interface is similar to the chat design you see today on ChatGPT. In an article published in Medium, Yin says that the new Bing will be powered by OpenAI’s GTP-4, which is the next version of ChatGPT.

Although AI is becoming more popular and could eventually change how we perform online searches, it’s still far from perfect, which means that initially, you won’t be able to rely on the answers. Also, since this technology can be misused, companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and others still have a lot of work to do to build safeguards so that it is only used for good.
