- Microsoft makes available the Windows 11 build 25987 in the Canary Channel.
- This flight adds a driver install option in the OOBE wizard.
- The update also rolls out support for viewing and editing metadata for “.png” files on File Explorer.
Microsoft is now making available the Windows 11 build 25987 for participants of the Windows Insider Program for devices enrolled in the Canary Channel, with changes to the Out-of-box Experience, Delivery Optimization page, and File Explorer.
According to the official changes, Windows 11 build 25987 introduces a new “Install Drivers” option in the Out-of-box Experience (OOBE) that allows you to install Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapters to continue the setup with an online connection when the system can’t detect the adapter. (It’s worth noting that this feature has been spotted in previous builds, but it was a hidden feature. You can test this feature through a clean installation using the ISO file.)
This flight also updates the “Delivery Optimization” page to match the design language on Windows 11. In addition, File Explorer now adds support for viewing and editing metadata for “.png” files, including setting stars, changing descriptions, and adding keywords. Also, Windows 11 build 25987 also fixes a File Explorer crashing problem when using Windows Sandbox on the non-English display language.
In this release, the company removes the “Maps” and “Movies and TV” apps from the clean install of the operating system. However, the apps will continue to be available during upgrades in the Canary Channel and from the Microsoft Store for the foreseeable future.
Finally, Microsoft is also noting that there’s a new update to the Store app that allows you to choose the storage to install games. The new interface even includes an option to turn off the feature.
As part of the known issues, the company notes problems with some games not working properly. Also, the Settings app may crash when clicking blank options on the “Personalization” and “Privacy & Security” pages. Furthermore, the company is looking into a hanging logo issue, trying to boot in Safe Mode.
