Build 25267 for Windows 11, according to the official changes, introduces settings to change the style of the search box available in the Taskbar. Also, this flight rolls out various enhancements for the Taskbar, File Explorer, Settings, and more.
The company also says that this is the last preview build that will be rolling out in 2022. However, the builds will resume in January 2023.
Windows 11 build 25267 changes
Here are the new features and improvements available with the latest build of Windows 11 in the Dev Channel:
Search box style
Microsoft continues experimenting with different looks for the search box in the Taskbar, as previously introduced with build 25252, and in the latest flight, you will notice a search box with more rounded corners instead of a square design.
The company says that Insiders that receive this update can change the design from the “Taskbar Items” settings on the Taskbar page.
Windows Security
This flight also updates the design of the Microsoft Defender Firewall notification prompt using the modern dialog with rounded corners and support for the light and dark modes.
Fixes available with this release
Windows 11 build 25267 also delivers many fixes for the Taskbar and Start menu.
Taskbar
- Fixed an issue causing the Bluetooth section of Quick Settings to crash for some people.
- Updated the Quick Settings icons in the taskbar when using a screen reader so if you set focus to each of the icons, it no longer includes the words system state and instead just says what the icon is (for example, instead of “system volume state” it just says “volume”).
- If the focus is set to an app icon on the taskbar and you use ALT + Shift + Left/Right to move it, Narrator will now say that it has been moved.
- Fixed a high-hitting explorer.exe crash impacting some Insiders in the last two flights.
- Fixed the issue causing a search box that appeared to be floating on the desktop when you changed your primary monitor or plugged in an external display.
- Text in the search box should no longer be clipped on the bottom when using increased text scaling.
Input
- Clicking the notification received the first time you press ALT + Shift should open the customize option now, rather than unexpectedly opening a Command Prompt window.
- Fixed an issue that was causing the first candidate item to be invisible or clipped sometimes in the Simplified Chinese IME candidate window.
File Explorer
- Fixed an issue where using “Browse for Folder” from an app was only showing Desktop (and no other folders) for some people.
Settings
- If a Windows Update failed to install, the error code in Windows Update history can now be selected if you want to copy it out.
Other fixes
- Fixed an issue where restartable copies of a file (for example, using robocopy) with alternate data streams were frequently hanging in the latest Dev Channel builds.
- Fixed an issue that caused some Insiders to have issues casting (with WIN + K) in the previous flight.
This release also has known issues with the Taskbar, Start menu, Task Manager, Widgets, and more.
