- Microsoft begins the rollout of the new Home experience for Xbox consoles.
- The update is available for Xbox Series X, S, and Xbox One consoles.
- The new interface prioritizes displaying backgrounds over the contents.
Microsoft is gradually rolling out the new Xbox Home interface. The company has been working on the interface for about a year, and now, it’s ready for Xbox Series X, S, and Xbox One consoles. The update brings more space for backgrounds and provides quick access to the search, store, and settings.
According to Ivy Krislov, senior product manager lead for Xbox Experiences, the new experience will begin rolling out immediately, but only to a portion of all Xbox consoles. Some customers may have to wait a couple of weeks to access it.
Microsoft has redesigned the Xbox dashboard interface to prioritize displaying backgrounds over the contents. This change was made after feedback from Xbox fans who wanted more room to display custom backgrounds or game art, quicker navigation options, and greater personalization. The new interface also includes a dedicated menu at the top of the screen for easy navigation to your library, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass, search, and settings.
One of the changes to achieve the new Home was to reduce the size of the tiles, and Microsoft has added a new responsive game art feature that updates the background when you hover over certain games and apps.
Furthermore, the interface features new curated and personalized lists and a widget-like interface for friends and community updates.
The new interface also includes many Game Pass contents, making it appear as big advertisements, but you can remove most of the content for a more personalized experience.
The new Xbox dashboard is available now for some users, but the company will expand the availability in the coming weeks. Once the update arrives, you will have to customize the interface to your preferences. You can also try to update manually by going to Settings > System > Updates > Update console and tapping the “Start update” button.
