You can now check a few Registry strings to determine if your computer running Windows 11 or 10 is compatible with version 22H2 (via @panusaukko on Twitter and Neowin) instead of using the Health Check app or waiting for an error message during the upgrade process to the Windows 11 2022 Update.

The system requirements for version 22H2 haven’t changed, which means that if your computer is already on Windows 11, it’s likely that the device will be compatible with the next version when it releases on September 20. However, if you are unsure or have a Windows 10 device, you can check some Registry strings to confirm whether the next feature update will be available for your computer.

This guide will teach you the steps to find out if your device will support the installation of Windows 11 22H2.

Check if your PC will run Windows 11 22H2

To determine if your computer is compatible with Windows 11 22H2, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.

  2. Search for regedit and click the top result to open the Registry.

  3. Navigate to the following path:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators\NI22H2
  4. Check that the DestBuildNum is set to 22621 to confirm the device is compatible with version 22H2.

  5. Confirm the UpEx and UpExU strings are set to Green. If they are set to Red, the computer isn’t compatible with version 22H2.

  6. Check the RedReason to learn why the device isn’t compatible. For example, missing TPM and Secure Boot features. If it reads None, then the device can be upgraded to the latest version.
