Microsoft launches Copilot AI for Shopping on Bing

You can now use Copilot AI to help you find and buy products online on Microsoft Shopping.

Microsoft brings its Copilot AI to the Bing Shopping experience just in time to help you with your holiday shopping, including Black Friday. According to the company, the Copilot AI has been designed to help you find the perfect gift or any item you want to purchase in less time.

The Copilot for the Shopping experience on Bing (the company also refers to it as “Microsoft Shopping”) is available from the dedicated Bing.com/shop/AI page. While I was checking out the AI chatbot, it appears that you don’t need to be signed in with a Microsoft account to use it.

The page includes a floating Copilot interface, similar to the experience on Windows 11. In the prompt box, you can ask the assistant things like “What are some gift ideas for women?” and Copilot will ask you some questions to help narrow down ideas for gifts for your girlfriend or wife.

Once you enter the prompt, the assistant will stay on the right side, and on the left side, you will get the results with different ideas of products grouped into categories.

When you choose a product, an overlay will open with the price history (if available), additional results, and the option to open the product page in the retailer.

Microsoft notes that it’s working on the ability to upload an image of the product that will allow Copilot to find the right match.

You can shop with Copilot on any browser, such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, but Microsoft recommends Edge.

As part of this rollout, the company is also updating the Copilot built into the Microsoft Edge browser with the ability to summarize product reviews. If you want to use this feature, open the product page on Microsoft Edge, click the Copilot button on the top-right, and ask the assistant to summarize what people are saying about the item online.

For example, you can ask something like summarize “what people are saying about the Xbox Series X” or “what people are saying about” and provide the link to the item.

It’s important to note that Copilot on Edge won’t summarize the comments from the page you’re viewing. Instead, it’ll look online for reviews and create an easy-to-digest summary.

In addition to these AI-powered features, Microsoft is touting a few security features that the company has been testing for some time, including “Edge Secure Network,” a VPN service to stop third parties and bad actors from accessing sensitive information.

The “Password Health” indicator and “Password Monitor” are two features to help you stay alert if your credentials are leaked online so you can act before your account gets compromised.

Microsoft Edge also comes with “Website Typo Detection” that prevents you from getting hit with a malicious site if you misspell a URL in the address bar.
