Microsoft plans to launch its Copilot to OneNote starting November 1, 2023, but only for businesses, not regular consumers. According to a new report from The Verge, the company will be releasing the AI chatbot in November, giving users the ability to rewrite notes, brainstorm content, and create lists, among many other tasks.
However, the company is not yet making the feature available to consumers. Instead, it’ll be available for Microsoft 365 customers on some of the business plan offerings as an extra addon that will cost $30 per month per user. It’s indeed an expensive addon that customers will have to pay in addition to their existing subscriptions, but the company hopes that the AI chatbot will change the way users manage productivity and get more time back.
In OneNote, the Copilot option will be available in the “Home” tab, and the interface will appear on the right side, similar to how the chatbot appears on the Windows 11 desktop and Microsoft Edge. As part of the functionalities, you will be able to summarize pages and any text selection. Copilot for OneNote can also help you create meeting and event notes and task lists, and you can ask any questions, like when using the Windows 11 Copilot.
If you have a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, you can expect to have access to Copilot at some point in 2024, but Microsoft still has to confirm the date.
In addition to the AI chatbot for OneNote, the company recently announced that it’s bringing Copilot to OneDrive with a slew of design improvements for the platform, but it hasn’t revealed any details on when to expect the chatbot arriving in other applications, such as Word and Excel.
