- Bing AI chatbot comes to the Windows 11 desktop.
- The feature is available through the search box in the Taskbar.
- However, it’s only a shortcut to access the Bing chatbot on the web.
- You will still need the sign-up to access the feature.
Microsoft is gradually rolling out the second feature drop update for Windows 11 22H2, and among the new features, the company is bringing the new Bing AI chatbot to the Taskbar.
When the company first announced the new Bing with ChatGPT integration, it also said that it wouldn’t stop there as more AI features were planned for many of its products, such as Office apps, Skype, and mobile. However, now, the company is revealing that the next feature drop update for Windows 11 also brings the Bing chatbot to the search box in the Taskbar.
After installing the update KB5022913 on Windows 11, you will notice that the search box now includes a Bing icon, indicating the new feature. The system also highlights the functionality inside the Search interface. However, when you type a question in the search box, you won’t get the answer in the flyout. Instead, Microsoft Edge will open in the Bing Chat experience. So, this is only a shortcut to the chatbot on the web, and it’s not a modified version of the chatbot that will interact with your files and settings either.
If you want an app-like experience, you can install the Bing AI with ChatGPT as a web app with these instructions.
While you can now start a Bing Chat from the Windows 11 desktop, you still need to sign up to request early access to the chatbot. Initially, the wait time was long, but the company has been proactively expanding availability to more users.
In addition to the new search experience in the Taskbar, the feature drop (moment 2) update for Windows 11 also brings various other improvements to the Taskbar, Quick Settings, Widgets, and Voice Access.
The update also includes updates for several apps, including Phone Link, Notepad, Snipping Tool, and Quick Assist. Finally, as part of the touch improvements, the operating system now features a redesigned Taskbar that collapses and expands while in tablet mode.
The update is rolling out starting on February 28 as an optional update, and it’ll become available for everyone automatically on March 14, 2023.
