Microsoft has released the previously rumored lightweight version of the Outlook app for Android devices. The app carries the “Outlook Lite” name and provides the same features as the regular version of Outlook in a smaller app size with faster performance and better battery management for low-end devices.
The download size of the Outlook Lite app is around five megabytes, with a very small footprint on phones. According to the company, the app has been designed to run fast, even on Android phones with only one gigabyte of memory. Since it uses fewer resources than the regular version, the new app should also help to save battery life. In addition, it’s been optimized to work well on older wireless technologies (such as 2G and 3G), which are still available in many regions.
The company says that the purpose of the Outlook Lite app is to make it easier for users around the world to manage their emails on lightweight phones.
Outlook Lite supports Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, MSN, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Exchange Online accounts. And it’s available in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and Venezuela.
The Outlook Lite app is available for download immediately from select markets through the Google Play store.
