  • Windows 11 22H2 to launch officially in late September 2022.
  • The release date of version 22H2 comes from sources familiar with the plan.
  • The new version will start rolling out in September, but it’ll take time to reach every PC.

Microsoft plans to begin the gradual rollout of Windows 11 22H2 (“Sun Valley 2”) in late September. According to a new report from The Verge, the company plans to “mark the 10-year anniversary of Surface with new products this fall” and “deliver the 22H2 update for Windows 11 in late September.”

After being in the final testing face for some time, it appears the company is getting closer to making the first feature update of Windows 11 available to everyone.

Since this will be a completely new version, it’ll require reinstallation, whether you use Windows Update or Installation Assistant. However, the upgrade process will keep files, settings, and apps.

As usual, Microsoft will control the rollout, meaning it will take time for compatible devices to receive the update. Only computers with a good upgrade experience will receive version 22H2 immediately. Also, the company will continue to place temporary blocks on devices that may have compatibility issues.

On the Windows 11 22H2 release date, you’ll also be able to install the new version using the Installation Assistant or a USB bootable media created using the official Media Creation Tool.

The new version focuses on visual changes to make the interface more consistent, with tweaks to the modern style and legacy components to align more closely with the new design language.

In addition, the update is expected to deliver a new set of features and many updates to current features. For instance, you will find new features like Live Captions and Voice Access. It will also introduce an updated version of File Explorer that brings support for tabs and a redesigned navigation pane, a new way to snap applications on the screen with drag and drop Snap layouts flyout, and redesigned version of Task Manager.

The Start menu will bring support for folders, and you will be able to control the number of recommendations. The Taskbar will get drag-and-drop support for files and apps, two of the most highly requested features, and several other tweaks.
