Surface Pro X, Duo, Laptop 3, Book 3 picked up June 2021 update

Several Surface devices received a new firmware update in June, and here's all you need to know.

  • Surface Pro X, Duo (locked), Laptop 3, and Book 3 received new firmware updates.
  • The updates are meant to fix various problems and patch security vulnerabilities.
  • The June updates with install automatically, but you can always install them manually.

During the month of June 2021, Microsoft made available firmware updates for several of its Surface products, including for its Surface Pro X, Duo, Laptop 3, and Book 3.

According to the device support website, the updates for Surface Book 3 and Surface Laptop 3 are meant to address problems with wireless networking, Bluetooth connectivity, patch security vulnerabilities, and improve security.

The one for Surface Pro X resolves an external display connection problem, Device Manager error, and marges support for both SQ1 and SQ2 devices. Then the update for the Surface Duo includes fixes Android UI stability improvements, patches security vulnerabilities, and fixes several problems with the device.

Surface Book 3 June 2021 update

This update was published on June 14 for Surface Book 3 devices running Windows 10 version 1903 or later:

  • Surface ME – Firmware  13.0.1763.5: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Intel Management Engine Interface – System 2102.100.0.1044: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Intel ICLS Client – Software devices 1.62.321.1: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz – Network adapters 22.40.0.7: Improves Wi-Fi connection reliability.
  • Intel Wireless Bluetooth – Bluetooth 22.40.0.2: Improves BT connection reliability.
  • Surface Integration Service Device – System devices 6.119.139.0: Improves integration between system services and improves system stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware 10.104.140.0: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.

Surface Laptop 3 June 2021 update

These improvements were published on June 14 for Laptop 3 devices running Windows 10 version 1903 or later:

  • Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160MHz 22.40.0.7: Improves WiFi connection reliability.
  • Intel Wireless Bluetooth 22.40.0.2: Improves BT connection reliability.
  • Intel iCLS Client 1.62.321.1: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Intel Management Engine Interface 2102.100.0.1044: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Surface ME  13.0.1763.5: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Surface RETIMER 0.42.0.0: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.
  • Surface Touch Pen Processor 3.208.137.0: Resolves bugcheck when using OneNote within the Teams app.
  • Surface UEFI 9.106.140.0: Addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.

Surface Pro X June 2021 update

The following fixes and improvements rolled out on June 16 for Pro X devices:

  • Surface System Aggregator – Firmware 1.207.139.0: Improves device stability and reliability.
  • Qualcomm Wi-Fi B/G/N/AC (2×2) Svc – Network adapters 1.0.1540.0: Addresses critical security vulnerabilities and improves connection stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware 7.570.140.0: Resolves the external display connection issue, improves device stability and reliability.
  • Surface Dock 2 Firmware Update Driver Extension 6.1.137.0: Enables Surface Dock 2 updates.
  • Qualcomm USBC UCSI Participant – System devices 2.16.139.0: Improves external monitor connection when resuming from hibernate.
  • Snapdragon TM X24 LTE Modem – Network adapters 1.0.1500.0: Resolves update issue where the device cannot receive SMS messages.
  • Surface Radio Monitor – System devices 3.50.139.0: Resolves Device Manager error reporting.
  • Surface Pro X Peripheral Image Loader Device – System devices 1.0.1220.0: Merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.

Surface Duo (AT&T Locked) June 2021 update

The following updates update were made available on June 8 for the locked version of the Duo:

  • Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin — May 2021.
  • Improves device stability and UI stability.
  • Improves scenario when one screen would turn black while using Surface Duo in book mode.
  • Fixes scenario when a “Double-tap to switch screens” message was appearing in book mode.
  • Fixes the scenario when using the TalkBack with 3-button navigation where the list of recent apps was showing on the left screen when invoked from the right screen.

The update will download and install automatically, but you can install it manually from the Android update settings page if your Duo has not received it.
