Surface Pro X

Microsoft reportedly creating a new Surface Pro X

A new Surface Pro X with a more powerful processor and color will launch in October 2020.

A new Surface Pro X is reportedly in the works, and Microsoft may launch it in the fall. According to a report from Windows Central (via The Verge), the updated version of the Surface Pro X will feature the Microsoft SQ2 processor based on the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G processor.

The original Surface Pro X came only in black with a black Type Cover, but according to the report, Microsoft is planning to also include a new model in platinum, similar to the Surface Pro 7 and other Surfaces based on the Intel processors, and they’re expected to ship with new Type cover colors.

Aside from the SQ2 processor and color updates, it’s unclear what other changes Microsoft is working on introducing with the hardware refresh for the Pro X. However, just the information about the processor upgrade is a significant step up, since it may improve emulation for traditional desktop applications that usually don’t run on Qualcomm ARM processors and other areas of the device.

While Microsoft hasn’t share any official details, the company is expected to have a Surface event sometime in October to unveil the new Surface Pro X and details about the hardware, design changes, pricing, and launch date as well as details about the rumored mid-range version of its Surface Laptop.
