Although if you want to upgrade to Windows 10 20H2 (October 2020 Update), it’s recommended to use Windows Update. Microsoft supports several other methods to upgrade using the Media Creation Tool.

The Media Creation Tool is a free utility designed to download the latest files of the operating system to create an installation media (such as USB flash drive or ISO file), which you can then use to perform a clean install. Also, you can use the tool to complete an in-place upgrade without creating a separate install media.

You can download the Media Creation Tool from this Microsoft support website to download the version 20H2 files to perform a clean installation, in-place upgrade, or create an ISO file as soon as it becomes available on October 20.

Also, you can use the tool to create a USB bootable media, which then you can use to boot the computer to upgrade Windows 10 20H2.

In the rare case that the Media Creation Tool is not working, you should use the Update Assistant to perform an in-place upgrade.

Microsoft is expected release the update on October 20, 2020, but as per usual, the rollout will be gradual, and it can take weeks before every device gets the feature update. The company will begin updating devices known to have a good upgrade experience, and then, when version 20H2 becomes more stable, the rollout will expand more broadly.

The Windows 10 October 2020 Update is only an incremental update that will be available as a quality update for devices already running the May 2020 Update, and as a regular feature update upgrade for computers using an older version.

If you need to download the Windows 10 20H2 ISO file directly, you can skip the Media Creation Tool using this workaround.
