Microsoft has released the update “KB5000842” for devices enrolled in the Release Preview Channel running Windows 10 20H2. The non-security update includes a slew of fixes and improvements that the company plans to roll out in the next cumulative update.
The update KB5000842 bumps the version number to build 19042.906, and according to the release log, it addresses the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) error and graphical content when attempting to print to certain printers. You will find a fix for File Explorer and other apps stop responding for several minutes. And it also fixes an issue that blocks the Server Message Block 1 (SMB1) clients from accessing the SMB share after restarting the LanmanServer service and cluster network interface to stop working for a short time.
In addition, the update fixes an issue with 7.1 channel audio and “Caps” lock unexpectedly turning on when using RemoteApp. It resolves high memory usage when performing XSLT transforms using MSXLM6, error code 0xC9, darker than usual high dynamic range (HDR) screens, and Windows 10 activation. Furthermore, the update addresses problems with Remote Desktop sessions ending unexpectedly, video playback in multi-monitor setups, hybrid shutdown, File Explorer high memory usage, notification system, upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Pro Education, and much more.
Starting with the update KB5000842, Windows 10 now downloads updated printer features to ensure that you have the proper set of selectable print options. It also removes the legacy version of Microsoft Edge and replaces it with the chromium version of the browser, adds new administrative capabilities, and resolves a few issues with the browser.
Finally, this patch fixes several problems for business customers, including Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection with Windows Server 2019, signing in to domain computer, Azure-related issues, and more.
Windows 10 build 19043.906 for version 21H1
Alongside the update for version 20H2, Microsoft is also pushing the same KB5000842 update but as 19043.906 for Windows 10 21H1.
The update includes all the changes previously available with build 19043.899, plus a fix to address the failure to print the graphical content in a document after installing the March 9, 2021 update.
